Years 7 & 8
Ngarri, or Sheoak, is a strong, graceful tree with fine foliage and timber valued for its durability. It improves the soil around it, supporting the growth of other plants and strengthening the environment it inhabits. This learning space reflects a stage where students are developing their own strengths while contributing to the growth of others. As learners mature, they begin to support peers, take responsibility, and recognise their role within the wider community, much like the Sheoak strengthens the land around it.
Ngarri is the learning community centre for the year 7-8 students.
This learning environments supports students who are developing into young adolescents. It does so by providing a variety of experiences and learning opportunities that cater for young people who are journeying into an ever changing and challenging world. It triggers curiosity and life long learning.
The students are encouraged to engage with curriculum that is relevant and at point of need, that exposes them to global issues and helps them develop into responsible citizens. The students are given opportunities to express their student voice and take on leadership roles. Inquiry based topics allow for independent learning that contains student choice and connects the students’ learning to real life situations.
Garra & Ngarri provide even transition entrance and exit points for students currently at the school and for new students. Students’ strengths, interests and achievements are tracked through ILP’s and goals are devised with students to enhance student outcomes. This is an integral component of Yuille Park Community College as students become school leaders and are able to put into practise skills and values they have acquired in previous years.
